Stewardship & Stitches

A quilt is like a hug when you need it most.

Come sew with us! Turn your fabric stash into comfort for a child — join the Project Linus Alabama Gulf Coast group on Facebook.

Three ways to give

We make and give new, handmade blankets to children in Mobile and Baldwin counties who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Our volunteers — Blanketeers — are the heart of the chapter. Join us in making simply, easy, beginner-friendly blankets that bring comfort to the ones who receive them.

Come for the blankets. Stay for the community.

There is something that happens when people gather around a table to make something that matters. We sew and crochet, sort fabric, share what we know, admire one another’s work, laugh a lot, and slowly become part of each other’s lives.

Being a Blanketeer gives us a reason to keep creating, but it also gives us a place to belong. There is purpose in knowing that what our hands make will comfort a child—and something equally special in doing that work alongside people who care about the same things.

You don’t have to be an expert, and you don’t have to come knowing anyone. Bring the skills you have, learn the ones you don’t, and come be part of a community built around making, giving, and showing up for one another.

From those who receive them

  • I have seen with my own eyes the comfort these blankets bring. Our kids choose just the right one from the stash, some taking great care to do so.

  • She kept that blanket close every moment. When I saw the Project Linus tag I was overcome, knowing someone had lovingly made it for my daughter.

  • It is comforting to know someone is thinking of you when you are facing a premature or sick infant. Thank you for the warmth that has filled my heart.
